How to Convert 4K to 1080p Video on iPhone with Shortcuts?

On iPhones, you can easily convert 4K videos to smaller 1080p video files for free and without using a 3rd party app. To do that you only need a simple Apple Shortcuts video conversion script.

Depending on whether you are converting a video from one of the albums in the iPhone’s Photos app or a file accessible via the Files app, tap on one of the following Shortcuts scripts to get it.

  1. 4K to 1080p Video Convert for videos in the Photos app.
  2. 4K to 1080p File Convert for videos in the Files app.

If the Shortcuts app hasn’t already been installed on your iPhone, a prompt message after tapping on the links will suggest you to install it from the App Store.

Once you start one of the scripts, it will ask you to select the video you want to convert to 1080p. The script 1 will convert and save the 1080p video file in the Recents album of the Photos app, while the script 2 will ask you in what folder you want to put the file.

Depending on the video length, the conversion may take a while.

4K to 1080p conversion is useful if you want to save storage space on your iPhone, since the 1080p file will be less than half the size of the original 4K file. You will need to delete the original file after the conversion to free up the storage space. Also, uploading and sharing 1080p video on social media and elsewhere is quicker and requires smaller data transfer via the network.
