If you rather want a more granular control over what kind of TikTok notifications you receive on your iPhone, go to the notification settings in the app itself – TikTok app / Settings and Privacy / Push notifications.

Where is Settings and Privacy Screen in TikTok App?

Settings in the TikTok app, including those about notifications, can be accessed by entering the TikTok profile via the Profile icon in the lower right corner on the screen, then tapping on the three horizontal lines “hamburger” icon in the upper right corner, and selecting the Settings and privacy item on the menu that pops up.

The iPhone notification options available in the TikTok app include those about:

  • Interactions – Likes, comments, new followers, mentions, tags, and reposts.
  • Messages – Direct messages with and without a message preview.
  • Video suggestions – Videos from accounts you follow, people you may know, and videos you might like.
  • Live – Notifications about accounts you follow going live.
  • Screen time – Updates about your weekly screen time on TikTok.
  • Other – Notification suggestions about people you may know, about customized updates, and email notifications.

On the right side of each notification type you have a toggle switch to turn it on or off.

Turn On or Off TikTok Notifications Based on iPhone Alert Type (Lock Screen, Notification Center, Banners)

In the iPhone Settings / TikTok / Notifications, you can select what type of iPhone alerts will be used to inform you about TikTok activity.

You can turn on or off notifications:

  • In the Notification Center – This is the main area for notifications in the iPhone iOS operating system. On modern iPhones, the Notification Center can be accessed by swiping down from the upper left corner of the screen.
  • Via Banners – If enabled, these pop-up notification messages appear on the top of the screen for a few seconds.
  • On the Lock Screen – Choose whether you want to see new TikTok notifications on the Lock Screen, without needing to unlock the phone.
  • Using sound alerts – You can enable or disable sound alerts for the TikTok notifications.
  • Using icon badges – These small red badges appear on the app icon if there’s new activity. The badges only let you know if there are new notifications and how many of them.

To enable or disable these alert types, on the Settings / TikTok / Notifications screen use the Lock Screen, Notification Center, and Banners check boxes and Sounds and Badges switches.

Some notification types that can be set within the TikTok app may be more important to you than the others, such as direct messages over new likes. But, the iPhone won’t let you set the lock screen, notification center, banner alerts, sounds, and badges for them separately. You can only set them for the whole TikTok app.
